Benalmadena

Benalmádena is a quaint Andalucian town in the Costa del Sol. Benalmadena is in the province of Málaga, sandwiched between the towns of Torremolinos and Fuengirola.

This town in the province of M is situated between Torremolinos and Fuengirola . Phoenician, Carthaginian, Visigoth, Arab and Roman influences have all shaped the lovely town of Benalm .

Covering an area of almost 30 sq kilometers, Benalmadena has an official 30,000 inhabitants. Just 19 kilometers from Malaga Airport , it is easy to reach from both Malaga capital and International Airport by road, train or bus and its privileged location that looks out onto the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. It is little wonder that it has grown so rapidly in size over the last 20 years and become so popular, particularly with the British. It is always lively, but the busiest time of year is during the hot summer months, when holidaymakers increase the population by more than triple - up to 100,000 people.

This area offers an uncomplicated lifestyle and a comfortable climate with light sea breezes. The minimum temperature is at 5 and a summer maximum of 35 Several thousands of British families have bought holiday homes and a large number of them have settled down permanently to live the life of their dreams.

The town is comprised of three distinct areas: Benalm , in the mountains, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalm , a first rate tourist resort.
Not so long ago it was rugged countryside, but the old village of Benalm Pueblo , despite the influx of foreigners, has managed to maintain a certain degree of restraint amidst the massive amounts of infrastructure works and construction developments that now surround it.
Arroyo de la Miel is the busy commercial town center that separates the village on the hill from the sea front. Arroyo de la Miel has grown quickly, due mainly to good road connection and the excellent train service that runs between Fuengirola and Malaga .

Benalm Costa is of course, the coastal area that is overflowing with hotels and beaches. There s also the award-winning Marina , with exceptional port facilities, the fabulous Aquarium plus a fantastic nightlife that you ll surely rave about.

Tapas bars, a wide range of cuisine and the open character of the people make this town a fun place to be, with a nightlife that ranks second to none. The beaches, the impressive Bil-Bil Castle and the delightful marina, declared one of the world's finest for its housing complex, make Benalm the ultimate place to spend the holidays.

Totally devoted to the tourist world, Benalm has developed a magnificent structure to that purpose -- its good quality hotels, urbanization, golf courses and the well-known amusement parks, its pleasure crafts harbor and other installations of superior level, make this town one of the main attractions in the Costa del Sol . Benalmadena is truly a model for the international tourism.

An important place to visit is the Archaeological Municipal Museum where a very interesting collection of Neolithic and pre-Columbian pieces are exhibited.

You have the choice of all nationality restaurants, including, Chinese, Italian, Dutch, Lebanese, and more. Among its traditional dishes are the roasted baby pork, gazpacho, fried fish, grilled sardines, and shellfish. There are also many English, Irish and Scottish pubs, most of which have live sporting events shown on huge screens.

There are also numerous opportunities to try out the local dishes and the best place to go is along the beach or to the Marina . Visit a 'Chiringuito' (beach bar) where fresh fish caught from the sea are served up with wonderful chilled wine or a refreshing glass of sangria.

Watchwords for the town are certainly fun and sun. Benalmadena is arguably one of the best places on the Costa del Sol for nightlife. With so many different types of bars, clubs, restaurants, there will always be something to suit every person s taste. From the latest Clubland sounds with top deejays spinning the best dance music, or live bands to swish sophistication, funky music and jazz, or salsa dancing till dawn, the Marina Port has it all.
At the crossroads before going down to the Port is the Solimar Plaza. Here stands a recently built commercial center with eight cinemas to choose from, and even more clubs and pubs for the night owls.

The beaches, as all the others in the Costa del Sol , are clean and nice and the mildness of the climate complete the recipe for the perfect getaway.
In Benalmadena there are plenty of things to see as well as do. Families will definitely enjoy and be entertained places like the theme park, Tivoli World and the fabulous Jardin de Las Aguilas (Garden of Eagles). Must-see as well is the penguins and dolphins at Selwo Marina and Sea Life . Take a ride in the cable car to enjoy breathtaking views of the coast.
Lined along the promenade that stretches from the Bil Bil Castle to the Marina , you will see an amazing variety of mosaics done by different artists. The styles and materials vary greatly, with some artists using a ceramic finish, while others opted for metal, wood or natural stone. This outdoor exhibition is the result of the Plan of Local Art Development, encouraging local artists to add beauty to the area by expressing their art in this way. The whole area contributes such an enriching and cultural ambience.

The promenade is one of the most clever of the Costa del Sol and plans have been set to extend it further. It presently covers several kilometers and stretches across the Benalmadena area. On one side is the relaxing and tranquil sand and sea while on the other side is the bustling commercial hubbub of activity. There are many bars and restaurants all along the sea front, where you can enjoy a pleasant time looking out across the Mediterranean while sipping on a cooling drink.
